A Century Pools network project: a Plunge set close to the house in a small backyard, with pale paving around the pool and garden beds along the edge. At 3.2 m wide and 1.6 m deep, the Plunge gives room to cool off without taking over the yard.
The Challenge
In a small backyard, a pool has to fit alongside paving, planting and the path to the house. A full-size pool would leave little room for anything else.
The Solution
The Plunge's U-shaped ledge wraps three sides of the shell, and steps on both sides make it easy to get in and out, so the pool is as much a place to sit as to swim. Paving runs around the pool and planting softens the boundary.
